Madison Taylor Hendricks

I was born and raised in San Diego, CA.

My desire to experience a season other than summer led me up the west coast to attend Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. At Gonzaga, I earned B.A. in Theatre Arts while also studying Dance and Interdisciplinary Arts. After graduating, I was hired as the Key Costume Designer for Spokane Civic Theatre. While working for Spokane Civic, I designed mainstage productions (Roald Dahl’s Matilda and Spring Awakening), intimate studio productions including The Flick, Memory of Water, and House of Blue Leaves, and special performances such as West Side Story (in collaboration with the Spokane Symphony) and Follies.

In the summer of 2020 (mid-pandemic), I made the rather bold decision to relocate to Chicago, IL in the hope of continuing my theatre education. I am currently working in the Wardrobe & Makeup Department for Blue Man Group - Chicago.

My personal aesthetics are deeply influenced by pop-punk and skater culture of the late 90s to mid-2000s. Artistically, I find the most fulfillment in projects that have a bit of grit or grime to them. Occasionally this comes in the form of literal grime for shows such as BUG, Mother Courage and Her Children, or Cabaret. Other times it comes in the nuanced realism of shows like The Flick or This is Our Youth.

As I continue my career, the stories I hope to take part in telling are the ones that may be hard to look at.

I am an artist who believes in the necessity of collaboration. Collaboration between designers, between designers and directors, and between designers and performers. I believe costumes should be a tool, not an overlay.
